The 1980s witnessed the entry of a new jaguar XJS that was fitted with a high-efficiency engine which mainly increased the economy factor and power output. A 3.6 litre 6 cylinder AJ6 engine was also introduced via the two-seater Cabriolet version which came with a 5-speed manual transmission. Several other versions came out in succeeding years to add to the lustre of the Jaguar brand.
However, it was in the 1990s that the XJS saw a high development along with several significant alterations. A new six litre V12 engine with a power of 304 hp was introduced and with features like outboard rear disc brakes and a GM 4L80 E transmission with a 4th gear overdrive, the XJS was subject to a refreshing face lift.
The XJS saw a wave of popularity after its debut in the television series, Return of the Saint where the hero is seen driving an old Jaguar XJS. This also resulted in the creation of miniature car versions which were extremely popular with the young and old alike.
